hey all,
if you have been reading my blog, i am so incredibly sorry that i haven't updated recently. since we have moved back to B/CS, both of our computer have broken. my hardrive crashed, and i still haven't been able to get a new one. so i am writing on my parents computer at their house.
so there is a hurricane coming...and if you didn't already know that...wow, you need to watch the news more. we had to evacuate my grandparents. they are staying with my parents until everyone is able to go back into the houston area. my aunt is also bringing her kids up here. they have been on the road since 5:30 this morning. they still aren't here. it's been 7 and a half hours since they got into the car. the traffic is horrible. they have a whole other side of highway that no one is using that could be used to help make the road not so congested. it's a little ridiculous that these people don't realize this. it's all over the news, and you really would think that something would have been done by now.
so what does everyone think about katrina? do you know...these people who evacuated to houston, they all got debit cards from FEMA with $2000 on them. well FEMA cut the debit cards off for some people because they were buying big screen TVs, and GUCCI bags instead of buying food and some cheapo clothes for themselves and their children. so the "evacuees" (who aren't really evacuees, because they left after the storm and not 3 days before when they knew it was coming), are all getting pissed off because they think they should get $20,000 instead, so they can start a new life here in texas. why do they need $20,000?? did they have that much money when they were in LA? what the crap? not everyone has that kind of money, and i highly highly doubt that the "evacuees" had that much money before the hurricane even hit. they deserve some money, but not even close to $20,000. i was watching the news and this one guy was being interviewed, he was a black man and got incredibly pissed off, because he had used $700 off of his card, and then couldn't use it anymore because FEMA cut everyone off. he was mad partially because of that, but also because he thinks that by him getting on the bus to come to houston that it's just like when "the white man put the black folk on the ships for slavery". he even said "FUCK" on national television...so he was cut off in the interview and not allowed to speak anymore. this whole thing has made me so angry at these people. they can't blame white people for everything that goes wrong, especially when it was them who screwed up and bought stuff they weren't supposed to. they also can't blame us because they were the ones who waited til the last minute to leave LA, they waited until the hurricane was over to leave. i understand that they might not have had transportation to get out, but there were ways to get out before the storm as well.
so the new hurricane...Rita...is headed straight for Houston/Galveston area. we will be getting some of the winds and a lot of rain for the next 4-5 days. it keeps changing from a Category 4 to 5 then back down to 4 then back up to 5, and now it's back down to 4. do you think that we are going to be getting $2000 if our town gets hit? no, it's not going to happen. and i highly doubt that houstonians will be getting any money from it either, but that's because they are all smart and leaving the town before the hurricane hits.
i know i'm venting, and sorry about that, but it's just a little ridiculous what these people expect from the USA. they will get a fresh start, but just because they get a fresh start doesn't mean they get $20,000 when they didn't have that much to begin with.

if you have any comments about either of the hurricanes, please leave them. feel free to say what you like.
